At the entrance of the Malteser aid agency refugee camp for citizens of the GDR at the Zugliget Church in Budapest; Malteser initiated the large-scale operation in Hungary on 27 August 1989: "10,000 East German refugees are cared for in three camps before being allowed to travel to West Germany." (
