A watchtower between Lauenstein, a neighborhood of Ludwigsstadt (Bavaria) and the town of Probstzella (Thuringia). The border was opened beginning on 11 November 1989 with the counties Kronach (Bavaria), Sonneberg and Saalfeld (Thuringia).
