"The events that came in the wake of 1989 fuelled much hope. In the summer of 1990, just a few months after the break-up of the GDR, the Breitenbach village jubilee was infused with a real celebratory feeling. Suddenly, people felt free to indulge in putting together a creative parade where uniforms turned into carnival costumes."
