Nach Kriegsende 1945 wurde das zwischen 1899 und 1904 erbaute Reichstagspräsidentenpalais mit Ausnahme des östlichen Gebäudeteils instandgesetzt und während der DDR-Zeit verschiedenen Nutzungen unterworfen, unter anderem lange Zeit als Sitz des "VEB Deutsche Schallplatten". 1961 bis 1989 grenzte das Gebäude direkt an die Berliner Mauer, welche zwischen Palais und Reichstagsgebäude verlief. During the time of East Germany it was subject to a variety of uses, one of which included housing the head office of "VEB Deutsche Schallplatten" (the GDR's monopolistic music publisher) for many years. From 1961 to 1989 the building flanked the Berlin Wall which ran between the Palais and Reichstag buildings. It is currently the seat of the German Parlamentary Association.
