"What I found interesting in the photo were the 'attempts at rapprochement' on the part of the man from the East and the man from the West. I was struck that the East German official (who had typically always been rather grumpy and unfriendly) looked very relaxed - in contrast to his Western colleague (who, in this situation at least, appears rather grumpy)."
