Frau Schneider fulfilled a long held wish in the spring of 1990: She visited the Thuringian town of Asbach-Sickenberg right on the border. This is now possible as the border was opened on 20 January 1990. She counts 30 houses, 14 of which are empty as many residents left Asbach in the 1950's. She encounters none of the 68 residents. Lastly, she visits the Protestant Church of Reconcilliation. "My wish has been fulfilled, but sorrow remains in my heart."
