"First trip to West Germany, to Hamburg. With my own Wartburg, which was only two years' old in October 1990, and for which I'd had to wait for 11 years. My brother Detlef came with me while our wives stayed in Berlin and awaited our return. We had to spend two nights in the car because of a shortage of accommodation."
