A stele without the GDR coat of arms at the inner German border crossing, Duderstadt/Worbis, which only admitted tourist traffic to the GDR and not transit travel to Berlin. In the 1980s, East Gemany used steles to mark its territory at border crossings.

"In the past I had often used this border crossing as a tourist crossing within the framework of 'local frontier traffic'. I often felt very intimidated by this incredible control structure and the, at times, humiliating treatment of the border soldiers. Now, the border crossing felt completely deserted."
