In spring 1990, Stefan Diepenbrock from West Berlin got his pilot's licence at the Schönhagen airfield in the GDR. He wasn't the only Western trainee pilot to do so. And thanks to the general confusion at the time, it was possible to have the pilot's licence accredited in the Federal Republic.

"...mit Fallschirm und Kanalhose (der Luftwaffe) beim Faxen machen am SKP, dem Startkontrollpunkt. Einen Tower oder eine Flugleitung gab es 1990 noch nicht in Schönhagen. Der SKP stand an der 'Schwelle' der Start- und Landerichtung und von dort wurden per Funk die Freigaben erteilt und die Bewegungen koordiniert."
